CAIRO: British poet Linda Cleary will teach a short story and creative writing workshop at Darb 17/18, an arts and culture center, on May 30 at 7:30pm. The workshop will teach various master class techniques and exercises to open up and improve writing skills, work with metaphors and imagery and create texts and narratives to given themes and word counts as well as free writing. The latter sessions focus on work on character, voice, atmosphere, and plot through reading published short stories in order to discuss and understand the format and focus on the necessary elements for each student to produce a final draft of a 1,000-word narrative. The ultimate aim of the workshop is to improve and enrich general creative writing skills and short story writing technique. Linda Cleary is a British poet and writer who has taught several creative writing workshops in Egypt, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Australia and the UK.
