Mohamed Abou-Treika and Emad Meteb will miss Ahli's Champions League clash with Berekum Chelsea after the Cairo club agreed to leave them for the Egypt Olympic team. After helping Egypt get through the group stage in London, the duo was supposed to rejoin their club for Saturday's continental match, which takes place on the same day of the quarter-final clash with Japan. However, Ahli have agreed to release the star duo despite coach Hany Ramzy's assurances that he is ready to let them go home. “After consulting manager Hossam Al-Badri and chairman Hassan Hamdi, we have decided to leave Abou-Treika and Meteb with Ahmed Fathi until the end of the Olympics," Ahli football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz told the club's website. “Ahli is keen to support the national team after qualifying for the quarter-finals, even though our team really need both players." Full-back Ahmed Fathi is suspended for the Chelsea game and was already expected to stay at the London Games. Ahli comfortably lead Group B after winning their opening two games against Mazembe and Zamalek.
