Mido is confident he will be physically ready for Barnsley's start of the season despite looking significantly overweight in the team's pre-season opener. The 29-year-old Egyptian moved to Barnsley this summer after he was released by Zamalek and has a point to prove with his new Championship club. “I'm confident I'll be ready for the start of the season. It's all about getting match fitness" Mido was quoted as saying by Sheffield Telegraph . “I think it [playing against Alfreton] was a good lesson for us and winning was important. I always believe winning is a habit, so it's good to get used to winning. “I've been putting in the right work for myself and the club. I'm sure in the next couple of weeks I'll get better and better physically." Mido has been struggling with weight and fitness problems for several years; a setback that forced him to miss long spells of the past three seasons with the clubs he played for. The former West Ham and Wigan striker started and played 45 minutes in the win over Alfreton as Barnsley prepare for the league opener against Middlesbrough on August 18.
