Ahmed Elmohamady made his first appearance in six games but played no more than nine minutes in Sunderland's 3-1 Premier League win over Queens Park Rangers. The Egypt international, who has yet to start a match since the appointment of coach Martin O'Neill back in December, was brought on to replace Nicklas Bendtner near the end. It was Denmark striker Bendtner who opened the scoring at the Stadium of Light before James McClean and Stephane Sessegnon added two more for the home side. Nigerian defender Somalia Taye-Taiwo scored a consolation goal for QPR, who went down into the bottom three with the defeat.
