The Egyptian FA is set to modify its punishment policy for using fireworks by fans during league matches, upon a recommendation from the Competitions' Committee. The penalty of using lighted canisters is one match away from home, with Ahli and Zamalek hosting more than one league game outside Cairo in the opening weeks of the season. “We met with club representatives and security chiefs, and we decided to present a recommendation to the FA to reduce sanctions related to fireworks,” Competitions' Committee chief Amer Hussein told FilGoal.com. “With the new policy, clubs shall be fined if their respective fans used fireworks but if canisters were thrown on the pitch, the team will play away from home.” The fireworks saga turned into a challenge between the FA and club fans recently, with Ahli and Zamalek supporters refusing to submit to the association's sanctions. Meanwhile, the Competitions' Committee overlooked infringements made during the previous round of the Egyptian Premier League, which included an intrusion by Zamalek fans to the match against Police Union behind closed doors.
