Egypt have been drawn against Ivory Coast, South Africa and Gabon in Group A of the 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers. The finals will be staged in Egypt from November 26 to December 10 as the inaugural U-23 African Championship. In Group B, North African neighbors Morocco and Algeria will lock horns, along with Nigeria and Senegal. The first two teams will qualify for the semi-finals as the two finalists automatically go through to the London Olympics, along with the winner of the third-place playoff. The 4th placed team will still have a chance to qualify for the Olympics as they contest a playoff match with an Asian nation. Egypt have last reached the Olympic Games in 1984 when they were ousted from the quarter-finals in Lon Angeles.
