Abdul-Wahed stripped of Zamalek captaincy, could leave
Published in FilGoal on 11 - 04 - 2011

Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed will no longer be Zamalek captain after falling out with the club's management, football director Ibrahim Hassan has confirmed.
The 33-year-old keeper, who has been skipper for four years, led a group of 12 players into filing a complaint against the club over unpaid wages.
He was then threatened to be stripped of the captain's armband by Hassan, accusing the latter of insulting him before the Zamalek players.
"Abdul-Wahed will no longer be Zamalek captain," Hassan told FilGoal.com.
"It is unacceptable that a team captain leads a revolt against his own club instead of showing loyalty.
"He seems to have forgotten how the club backed him for two years during his injury."
The decision is likely to spark further unrest inside the Zamalek squad after a number of players had defended Abdul-Wahed recently; insisting that the veteran goalie 'did not lead a revolt'.
Meanwhile, January returnee Mido is a strong candidate to wear the Whites' captain's armband, given the fact that he is one of very few home-grown players within the squad.
Last day
In response to the decision, Abdul-Wahed insisted that he will leave the club immediately if he was notified by the management.
"I'll wait until tomorrow's training and see. If the football director officially notified me with the decision, it will be my last day at Zamalek," the Egypt international said.
"If some players accept take what's happenning to me, I don't. I have the utmost respect for the fans who were always behind me.
"Unfortunately, what's happenning to me now is the same that happened with other Zamalek loyals before me.
"Anyway the fans are aware to see the difference between those who truly love Zamalek and those who claim it because they hate rival clubs.
"My contract expires by the end of next season, but I am ready to terminate it by activating a $325,000 realease clause."
