The Egyptian ace was introduced as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur in the previous match. Jermaine Beckford scored Everton's goals on 8 and 39 minutes. The hosts could have ended the match in a 3-0 victory if it wasn't for Elmo, who cleared a Leon Osman shot off the line. Upon being condemned to their fourth consecutive loss, Sunderland moved down from seventh place to eighth. Steve Bruce's side haven't beaten Everton since 2001. Their last away victory over the Toffees was in 1996.
