Mido said he was grateful to Ajax fans for warmly welcoming him on his return to the Amsterdam Arena. The Egyptian striker made his first Ajax appearance after joining in the close season in their 3-0 Dutch league victory over NAC Breda on Saturday. He started on the bench before being introduced instead of Miralem Sulejmani with 13 minutes remaining. "It was a great feeling," Mido, who joined Ajax from English second-division side Middlesbrough on a season-long loan, told Ajax TV. "It was great to see the fans appreciate my efforts, this puts a great responsibility on me. I'm ready." The 'second debut' of Mido, who made his name with Ajax in the early 2000s, was delayed due to his weight and fitness problems. He is likely to face fierce competition to break into Ajax's starting line-up, given that strike duo Luis Suarez and Mounir El Hamdaoui are producing superb displays upfront. Uruguay World Cup striker Suarez and Morocco's El Hamdaoui have scored 14 goals between them so far this season. "Mido has become fitter and stronger," Ajax coach Martin Jol, who also managed the 27-year-old at Tottenham Hotspur, said.
