Former Egypt coach Mohsen Saleh resigned from his post as Smouha manager following their maiden Egyptian Premier League appearance. The newly-promoted side kicked off their campaign in the top flight with a 1-0 loss to Military Production on Thursday. "We've accept the resignation of Saleh," Smouha chairman Farag Amer told FilGoal.com on Friday. "Saleh expressed his desire to leave several times but I tried to keep hold of him. "However, the players became aware of his insistence to leave so I had no choice but to accept his request." Saleh, who guided Ismaili to their last Egyptian league triumph in 2002 before taking charge of Egypt in the 2004 African Cup of Nations, was appointed as Smouha boss three months ago. Reports said that he opted to depart the Alexandria-based club to work as a television pundit. "Saleh asked to work as a technical adviser for the club but we refused that. Football should be managed on the pitch not off it," Amer added. "I don't know why he left. We brought the players he wanted to sign and made everything available for him to succeed."
