Egyptian Premier League highlights (Round 1)
Published in FilGoal on 09 - 08 - 2010

Enjoy FilGoal.com's selections of the Egyptian Premier League first round highlights.
Best Player (Ahmed Eid):
Ahmed Eid once again proved to be Harras Hodoud's most reliable player with an impressive display in his side's 2-2 draw at home to Cairo giants Zamalek.
The Egypt forward earned the penalty which helped striker Ahmed Mekki open the scoring after making a jinking run into the 18-yard box.
He also wrecked havoc down the left flank and repeatedly exploited the weakness of Zamalek's right-back Ahmed Ghanem.
Best goal (Godwin V Petrojet):
Nigerian striker Ndubuisi Godwin scored his first goal for Ismaili to give them a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Petrojet.
The 26-year-old, who joined Ismaili in the close season, settled the tie in his side's favor with a fine individual effort in the 71st minute.
He gathered a loose ball on the edge of the area, skipped past Petrojet defender Mahmoud Samna and sent a low shot past the advancing keeper.
Best match (Harras Hodoud 2-2 Zamalek):
Last season's runners-up Zamalek were denied an opening win in a thrilling clash in Alexandria.
Hodoud striker Ahmed Mekki converted a penalty shortly after the quarter-hour mark but Zamalek's Ivorian striker Abou Kone marked his debut with an acrobatic effort in the 50th minute to level the score.
Amr Zaki, who spent the second half of last season on loan at English side Hull City, scored his first club goal since December 2008 from the spot to put Zamalek in front.
The White Knights were close to claiming all three points but were stunned by a goal from Mohamed Hamed, who volleyed home from inside the area with three minutes remaining to secure a share of spoils.
Best team (Wadi Degla):
Promoted Wadi Degla, one of the few Egyptian privately-owned clubs, enjoyed a night to remember in their first ever top flight game.
They stunned one-time Egyptian champions Arab Contractors with a 4-1 victory to open their league campaign in the best possible way.
Goals from playmaker Ashour Al-Taqui, Syrian striker Abdul-Fattah Agha, Ahmed Mostafa and Ghanaian frontman Wisdom Agblexo handed them a remarkable win.
Best coach (Talaat Youssef):
Police Union coach Talaat Youssef adopted a smart defensive plan to keep Ahli forwards at bay in a surprise goalless draw at Cairo Stadium.
A star studded Ahli side that included the likes of Mohamed Abou-Treika, Mohamed Barakat and Geddo could not break down a resolute Police defense.
The title holders dominated possession throughout the game but barely created clear-cut chances, thanks to Youssef's fruitful strategy.
Newsmaker (Mohsen Saleh):
Smouha manager Mohsen Saleh abruptly handed in his resignation after just one game in charge of the club.
Saleh took charge of the newly-promoted club three months ago but opted to leave after the team slumped to a 1-0 loss to Military Production in their maiden Premier League appearance.
Reports suggested that the former Egypt manager departed to focus on his work as a television pundit.
He said afterwards that he would not work as a coach anymore.
