The Cameroonian Football Federation called on the public to support the national team after a public row between Samuel Eto'o and former striker Roger Milla dominated the build up to the World Cup. Milla infuriated Inter Milan striker and Cameroon's marksman Eto'o after accusing him of not doing enough to replicate his club form with the Indomitable Lions. Eto'o hit back at the 58-year-old, who was 38 when he guided Cameroon to a place in the 1990 World Cup quarter finals in Italy, and threatened to skip the June 11-July 11 tournament in South Africa. But Eto'o was eventually included in Cameroon's final 23-man squad for the football's showpiece event. "The Cameroonian Football Federation provides support for the national coach Paul Le Guen, captain Samuel Eto'o and all of our national team," the federation's chief Iya Mohammed said in a statement. "Following statements made in the media by some major figures of our football which disturb the serenity of our national team, the Cameroon Football Federation invites the public to remain united around the athletes of the Indomitable Lions." Four-time African champions Cameroon open their World Cup campaign against Japan on June 14. They will also face Holland and Denmark in Group E.
