Zamalek sack Michel
Published in FilGoal on 29 - 11 - 2009

Zamalek gave head coach Henri Michel the sack, right after the White Knights' 2-0 loss at Police Union in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.
"Michel is no longer in charge, and the board members will convene on Sunday to see who's going to succeed him," board member Amr Al-Ganaini told FilGoal.com.
From his side, the French tactician stated that his 'incessant attempts' to turn around Zamalek's fortunes doomed to failure.
"We were facing the same problems in each match; we control the game and get a number of scoring chances but we always fail to translate our dominance into goals," Michel told the post-match news conference.
"Police capitalized on our defense's disorganization in the first half to score the opener, and when we were attacking they notched the second."
Minusu Buba and Samuel Kyere scored on 22 and 71 minutes respectively to give Police a deserved 2-0 home win over the ailing Cairo giants.
"My incessant attempts to improve Zamalek were to no avail," the former Ivory Coast boss added.
When he took the helm at Zamalek, Michel first depended on a 4-4-2 formation but the team suffered a string of unsatisfying results.
He then employed a 3-5-2 formation, but the five-time African champions suffered more disappointments.
Zamalek lost four times under the guidance of Michel, who managed the team only for seven matches.
Michel, who took charge of France, Cameroon and Morocco throughout his career, had another stint at Zamalek two years ago.
Zamalek, who last won the league title in 2004, notably improved under his guidance in the second half of the 2006/2007 season.
They were on the verge of winning the Egyptian Cup but suffered a dramatic 4-3 defeat to arch-rivals Ahli after extra time in the competition's final.
Few months later, Zamalek were holding their pre-season training camp in France when Michel suddenly left them without disclosing the reasons behind his decision.
