Arsenal striker Robin van Persie accused his former teammate and current Manchester City man Emmanuel Adebayor of maliciously stamping on him during Saturday's Premier League clash. Adebayor, who joined City from Arsenal in the close season, caught Van Persie in the face with his boot in the second half of his side's 4-2 victory. "I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor's mindless and malicious stamp on me during the match," Van Persie said in a statement on Arsenal's official website. "We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical, I too have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges, but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today." Adebayor was also booked when he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate scoring City's third goal in front of Arsenal fans. He later apologized for hurting Van Persie, saying his challenge was unintentional. "I was trying to kick the ball. I see him tackling and I don't have time to take my feet back because I'm trying to kick the ball," the 25-year-old told Sky Sports. "My feet touch his head. I feel sorry for him and even straight away, and at the end of the game, I said sorry." The English Football Association said they would take a close look at the incident. "We'll look at it on Monday and then bring it to the disciplinary process," FA chief Ian Watmore told BBC Sport. /
