Chelsea won their first trophy of the season after beating Manchester United on penalties to clinch the curtain-raising Community Shield following a 2-2 draw on Sunday. Portuguese winger Nani gave Premier League winners United the lead after 10 minutes when he cut past Serbian full-back Branislav Ivanovic before firing a low shot into the bottom corner. Ricardo Carvalho drew Chelsea level seven minutes after the restart when he headed into an empty net after United keeper Ben Foster punched a cross into his path following a collision with Didier Drogba. Frank Lampard put the Blues in front on 71 minutes when his low shot from inside the area struck Foster's hands and found the net as the England midfielder rounded off a neatly-worked counter attack. Wayne Rooney ensured United had a chance to win the game by leveling the score one minute from time. He latched onto a Ryan Giggs through pass to break clear of defense before dinking the ball over Petr Cech. Chelsea had the upper hand in penalties, winning 4-1 to hand new coach Carlo Ancelotti his first title at the helm. Giggs and Patrice Evra saw their tame efforts saved by Cech as Salomon Kalou notched the decisive spot-kick for Chelsea.
