Egypt won the women's world team championship title for the first time in their history after defeating holders England 2-1 in Cairo. Omneya Abdul-Kawi, ranked seventh in the world, overcame Jenny Duncalf 11-1, 11-6, 11-9. Abdul-Kawi's compatriot Ranim Al-Weleili lost to world's number eight Laura Lengthorn-Massaro, 11-8, 5-11, 15-13, 6-11, 11-4. Enji Kheirallah met England's Alison Waters in the decider and the latter took the lead twice. But Kheirallah came from behind three times and saved a match-ball to defeat Waters 4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-0, 12-10 and hand Egypt the prestigious title. The women team's triumph consolidates Egypt's dominance in squash. In October, Egyptian trio Rami Ashour, Karim Darwish and Amr Shabana occupied the top three positions in the Men's World Open.
