Mohamed Zidan has once again failed to impress as Schalke surrendered a three-goal lead to allow Dortmund hold them to a 3-3 draw in a scintillating Bundesliga game. Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfan fired Schalke in front in the 20th minute when he converted a penalty. Brazilian full-back Rafinha doubled the advantage seven minutes before the break. Schalke looked as though they put the result beyond doubt when Heiko Westermann headed home in the 53rd minute. But Dortmund rallied to register a remarkable comeback at Westfalenstadion, their home venue. Defender Neven Subotic scored the first goal for Dortmund in the 67th minute before Swiss striker Alexander Frei further narrowed the gap three minutes later. Schalke suffered a major blow when duo Christian Pander and Fabian Ernst were sent-off in the space of four minutes.
Klopp and Zidan during their spell at Mainz Dortmund capitalized on their numerical advantage as Frei's penalty one minute from time completed their astonishing comeback. Mediocre Zidan Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan did not contribute to Dortmund's thrilling second-half display. The 26-year-old, who joined from Hamburg SV in the summer transfer window, wasted two golden opportunities early in the second half while Dortmund were trailing 3-0. He was consequently replaced three minutes past the hour mark amid jeers from the home crowd. Zidan took part in Dortmund's three Bundesliga matches but he is yet to open his account. Although Zidan excelled under Jurgen Klopp during his spell with modest club Mainz, he is yet to replicate that form after being reunited with the 41-year-old coach at Dortmund.
