World governing body, FIFA, expressed their dissatisfaction with the government interference in the Egyptian FA's election process. The concerns arose after the Egyptian Higher Council for Sports (HCS) demanded the Egyptian FA to hold its elections after this year's Beijing Olympic Games although their mandate is due to expire in 2009. The HCS have issued new regulations which they want the Egyptian FA to be in line with. However, FIFA have sent a fax to the Egyptian FA, expressing concerns over the government interference in the running of football. "The increasing political interference with the ambition to force the national sport federations to hold their elections after the Olympic Games, led the International Olympic Committee to officially intervene to protect the autonomy of the local sport movement." "Moreover, this situation would represent a shortening of the mandate of the current EFA leadership which is supposed to continue till June 2009." Guidelines FIFA revealed the steps that the Egyptian FA should follow to legalize implementing the new regulations. "No election could take place before the new statutes will be approved by an EFA General Assembly based on a draft previously approved by FIFA." "In this context, FIFA would like to invite an EFA delegation to Zurich as soon as possible before the 15 July, to finalize the draft of these new EFA statues and discuss current situation."
