France are anxiously waiting to see whether captain Patrick Vieira would be fit for EURO 2008 as coach Raymond Domenech called up Mathieu Flamini on Monday as a possible replacement. Vieira didn't take part in the last two friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay. He also failed to complete Friday's training session due to a thigh injury. The 32-year-old midfielder is a pivotal member of Domenech's starting line-up. He shoulders, alongside the likes of Thierry Henry and Franck Ribery, France's hopes of winning the European title for the third time in history. Les Bleus were crowned champions in 1984 and 2000. Flamini was in the provisional 30-man squad but was dropped among seven players. He had an exceptional season with Arsenal before signing for Milan this summer. But Flamini won't replace Vieira unless the Inter Milan man was confirmed out by June 8th, one day before France's Group C opener, according to a spokesman of the French Football Federation (FFF). France will play Romania in their first encounter in the group that also includes Holland and World Champions Italy.
