Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira has been named by French coach Raymond Domenech as the new national team captain following the retirement of Zinedine Zidane. The legendary Zidane retired from professional football following the World Cup finals in Germany, and Domenech announced that 30-year-old Vieira is the perfect man to walk in Zidane's path. "The captain will be Patrick Vieira and it's a logical choice," Domenech told French television channel TF1 on Sunday. Vieira, who is a former World and European champion with France, held the arm band in eight of his 94 international caps, and the ex-Arsenal player will start his captaincy reign in the friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina on August 16th. Meanwhile, Domenech said that he's more likely to stick with a similar French team to the one he led to the World Cup final last month. "I will not pick a team based on their form at the moment, but with the intention of preparing a team for the EURO 2008 qualifiers against Georgia and Italy," Domenech said.
