Ahli could be forced to field inexperienced Ahmed Abdul-Monem in the crucial clash against Platinum Stars as regular goalie Amir Abdul-Hamid is yet to recover from an injury. The Egyptian champions host South Africa's Platinum Stars on Sunday in the second-leg of the CAF Champions League round of 16. Ahli are not expected to enjoy a smooth progress to the group stage as they were handed a 2-1 away defeat to Stars in the first leg. To add to their worries, Abdul-Hamid, who became Ahli's first-choice keeper following the departure of Essam Al-Hadari, is unlikely to feature. "Abdul-Hamid's injury needs more time to be healed," an Ahli official, who refused to be named, told FilGoal.com on Wednesday. The 29-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during Ahli's 3-1 Egyptian League victory over Petrojet last month. He returned against Stars in the first leg but aggravated the problem, to leave Ahli coach Manuel Jose in a goalkeeping crisis. Youngster Abdul-Monem, who participated in three league games so far, will deputize for Abdul-Hamid.
