Schalke football director Andreas Muller declared that the Bundesliga side are close to signing FC Twente coach Fred Rutten next season. The Royal Blues sacked Mirko Slomka earlier this month, following a 5-1 crushing defeat to Werder Bremen. Youri Mulder and Mike Buskens were handed the task of managing the team temporarily, but it seems that Rutten is on his way to Veltins-Arena in the summer. "Talks with Rutten are in progress, a few details will be completed soon," Muller told Bild. Twente have managed to reach fourth place in the Eredivisie table so far this season under Rutten. Schalke will have to pay Twente around 500,000 Euros in order to acquire the services of the Dutch manager.
