A last-gasp penalty by Dirk Kuyt helped Liverpool come from behind and earn 2-1 away victory over nine-man Everton in a thrilling Merseyside derby on Saturday. Finnish defender Sami Hyypia gifted Everton the opener in the first-half after he scored into his own net in a bizarre strike. Dutch striker Kuyt leveled the score from the spot nine minutes after re-start as Tony Hibbert saw red for howling down Steven Gerrard inside the area. The former Feyenoord man converted another penalty in stoppage time and Everton had Phil Neville also sent-off for handling Lucas Levia's shot on the line. The Toffees' misery was compounded when they were denied a clear penalty just before the final whistle after Jamie Carragher pulled down Joleon Lescott. Everton fans erupted into ecstasy after Hyypia comically left-footed Alan Stubbs' cross past his own keeper seven minutes before the break. Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute when Hibbert found no alternative but to make an illegitimate halt to Gerrard's clear run on goal. Kuyt stepped up to send Tim Howard the wrong way and draw Liverpool level. He wrapped-up the valuable win in the additional time from another spot-kick, after Neville chose to prevent a certain goal with his hand.
