Chelsea have confirmed that defender Ashley Cole did not break his ankle, following his injury in England's 3-0 win over Estonia on Saturday. The 27-year-old crashed to the ground awkwardly during the Euro 2008 qualifier, and has been accordingly ruled out of the crucial game at Russia on Wednesday. It is expected that Cole, who returned to his club immediately, would face no less than three months on the sidelines, but Chelsea have no concerns for an ankle break. "It is definitely, definitely not broken," insisted a spokesman from the London club, speaking to the Daily Telegraph. The former Arsenal full-back suffered a similar injury last February when he fell awkwardly during the Blues 3-0 Premiership victory over Blackburn. It is likely that Everton center-half Joleon Lescott will shift to left-back in order to replace the injured Cole for the Russia tie. Lescott is yet to make a full international debut, as he represented England for the first time coming on as a second-half sub to Rio Ferdinand against Estonia.
