Ahmed Hassan has admitted he wasn't at his best during Anderlecht's 2-0 home defeat to Fenerbahce, the loss that dumped the Belgian champions out of the UEFA Champions League. "My performance wasn't good against Fenerbahce. I apologize for Anderlecht fans and Egyptian people for our elimination from such a prestigious competition," Hassan told FilGoal.com on Thursday. Turkey's Fenerbahce won 3-0 on aggregate after beating Anderlecht away from home 2-0 in the second-leg, thanks to goals from Serbian striker Mateja Kezman and Brazilian defender Alex. "Kezman's early opener negatively affected our morale and made our task too difficult. Firstly, we needed a goal to level the aggregate score but after Fenerbahce's strike we had to score three goals." "It was a huge burden especially on the shoulders of Anderlecht young players, who lack experience," Hassan added. The Egypt skipper has also rued Anderlecht's bad luck. "The post denied us twice in the first-half. If we scored these two goals we would have been in better position." Hassan said his below-par form was down to tiredness as he played full seven matches in the space of three weeks. He also expressed his hope that Anderlecht can do better in the UEFA Cup to compensate for the Champions League disappointment.
