Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk announced that Egyptian keeper Sherif Ekrami will remain his second choice and experienced Henk Timmer will keep his place as a regular starter. "I took my decision after watching them during trainings and friendly games," Marwijk was quoted saying on the club's official website. Ekrami guarded Feyenoord's nets in a friendly game against Liverpool and had a convincing performance. The 24-year-old keeper joined the Dutch Eredivisie side in 2005 and hoped he could get off the bench this season.
