Egypt slumped to a 3-1 defeat against hosts Cuba in the opening game of the 2007 World League at Havana's Ciudad Deportiva Hall. Cuba won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-20 before Egypt pulled one back in the third set, winning 25-22. However, Cuba secured their victory with a 25-21 win in the fourth set. Egypt are third in Pool C with one point, one behind Russia and Cuba who lie first and second respectively. "I value this match because it meant our return to court after several days. We need more time to improve our game, but beating Cuba in the third set was great," Egypt coach Grzegorz Ryz told the post-match press conference. "We enjoyed that, because we were without our stars," Ryz added, referring specifically to Treviso star Abdullah Abdul-Salam.
