Michel looking to end Zamalek's title drought
Published in FilGoal on 05 - 04 - 2007

French manager Henri Michel said he will do his best to make sure Zamalek end the season with a major trophy after a title-drought that lasted almost three years.
With Zamalek eliminated from the round of 32 in the African Champions League after losing to Al-Hilal of Sudan 4-2 on aggregate and the local league title looking far fetched, Michel said he will be concentrating on the region's most important competition.
Michel, who took over at Zamalek in January, said the team has a chance of ending the season with a title if they concentrate on the Arab Champions League (ACL) and Egyptian Cup competitions.
"The ACL has become a very important competition for us," Michel told Egyptian daily Al-Messa in an interview.
"We were knocked out of the African Champions League and our situation in the Egyptian league isn't that good, so we have to concentrate on winning the ACL, especially that we have gone a long way in the competition."
The French boss has also set his eyes on Egypt's second biggest competition.

Can Michel return Zamalek to their winning ways?
"After the ACL we have the Egyptian Cup competition, which we also want to win.
"It's better to end the season with a trophy in your cabinet than win nothing at all," he said.
The former Ivory Coast manager insisted that he has not reached any agreement with Zamalek over renewing his six-month contract that expires in June.
Michel said that the negotiations between him and Zamalek are no one's business.
"My negotiations with Zamalek are not for public knowledge," the Frenchman said.
"Everything that was written in the press regarding that matter is all lies."
