A double salvo from Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan gave Mainz a 2-1 victory over Nuremberg in the German Bundesliga on Saturday. Zidan put the hosts ahead after 20 minutes, slotting home on the rebound after Elkin Soto's shot was blocked. Seven minutes later Zidan was set free by teammate Mimoun Azaouagh's brilliant through pass and the Egyptian international had no problem finding the net for his sixth goal in three matches since moving in January from Werder Bremen. Ivan Saenko scored the consolation goal for Nuremberg in 64th minute. The victory moved Mainz to 10th spot in the Bundesliga table. Elsewhere Bavarian giants Bayern Munich restored their form with a 2-1 home victory over Wolfsburg.
Van Bommel Lukas Podolski gave Bayern the lead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot. Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel added the second in the 56th minute, before Cedric Makiadi pulled one back for Wolfsburg. The result meant Bayern held on to 4th place in the league table with 40 points, In other matches, Dutch striker Arnold Bruggink bagged a brace as Hanover cruised past Borussia Dortmund with a 4-2 win. Hamburg continued their march away from the bottom of the table, securing a 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Energie Cottbus dug deep into Arminia Bielefeld's wounds with a 2-1 win, while Alemania Aachen and Bochum played out a 2-2 draw.
