Barcelona returned to winning ways in the Primera Liga after crushing Gimnastic 3-0 at the Nou Camp on Sunday. In-form Javier Saviola put the hosts ahead in the 17th minute when he was picked out unmarked by Oleguer's pass inside the area before hitting a first-timer into the back of the net. French winger Ludovic Giuly doubled the lead seven minutes after the hour mark on the rebound after Eidur Gudjohnsen's initial header from a Ronaldinho cross was denied by the bar. The Catalan giants killed off Gimnastic's hopes ten minutes from time when a one-two between Gudjohnsen and Ronaldinho. The Brazilian playmaker's darting run was halted by the keeper but Andres Iniesta was in the right place to poke home into the empty net. Barcelona, who haven't won in the league since defeating Real Sociedad on December ninth, are on top of the table with 38 points with one game in hand. They lead second-placed Sevilla on goal difference. Earlier on Sunday, Valencia grabbed their sixth successive win after edging Real Sociedad 1-0 away from home. Spain striker David Villa curled a brilliant free-kick into the top corner of the net in the 29th minute to bag the three points.
