AS Roma's hopes of competing for the Serie A title suffered a setback after they were crushed 3-0 by city rivals Lazio at the Olimpico Stadium on Sunday. Despite the defeat, Roma are still in second place of the league table with 32 points but fell seven points adrift of leaders Inter Milan, who thrashed Empoli 3-0. Roma's loss came to end their run of six consecutive league wins under the guidance of Luciano Spalletti Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma broke the deadlock two minutes before the interval when he fired a powerful long-range drive into the top corner of the net. Italian right-back and AC Milan target Massimo Oddo extended the lead six minutes after re-start from the penalty spot after Goran Pandev was brought down by Roma keeper Alexandre Doni. Massimo Mutarelli ensured Lazio's win in the 72nd minute when he volleyed home from the rebound after Stefano Mauri's initial effort hit the bar.
