The Malian Olympic team turned down an offer to play a friendly game against the Egyptian Olympic team on November 15th. The Malian side claimed to have a scheduled game against South Africa, which put the Egyptian team in a tight spot, a technical staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FilGoal.com on Thursday. Olympic team manager Nelo Vingada was hoping to face Mali two days after the scheduled friendly against Kuwait as the team prepares for their crucial clash against Ivory Coast in a 2008 Beijing Games qualifier. Egyptian Football Association (EFA) officials have immediately moved to set up an alternative game and contacted their counterparts in Cameroon, Nigeria and Senegal. The Egyptian Olympic team is scheduled to face Ivory Coast in a two-leg qualifier in February and March 2007. On the other hand, Salah Hosni has been removed from his post as director of the Olympic team based on the recommendation of the High Council of Sports (HCS). Hosni was voted on the board of directors for Heliopolis club, which makes him illegible to hold a post in the EFA.
