Middlesbrough have signed defensive duo Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth, the Premiership side announced on their official website on Wednesday. Chelsea's German international Huth put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal for a fee of six million pounds ($11.40 million), while Real Madrid defender Woodgate signed a year-long loan with Boro. "We have added two international defenders to our squad in one afternoon. That's a significant coup for Middlesbrough and a big boost for everyone at the club," Middlesbrough coach Gareth Southgate said.
Huth "Both players feel they have a point to prove - and the great thing is that they want to do that with Middlesbrough. I'm absolutely delighted." England defender Woodgate joined Real Madrid from Newcastle in the summer of 2004, but a series of injuries restricted his appearances for the Spanish giants to just 14 games. The 22-year-old Huth was looking for a move away from Chelsea as he was not included in coach Jose Mourinho's plans.
