England defender Jonathan Woodgate was voted the worst signing of the 21st century, in Spain, by the readers of Marca, the Spain's biggest selling sports daily. The former Real Madrid defender topped the poll earning 37,11% of the votes on their website. The 27-year-old defender was signed from Newcastle for $25 million in August 2004 but because of a thigh injury Real could only use him in September 2005. His first official game was a real nightmare as he scored an own goal and was sent off in the league match against Athletic Bilbao at the Bernabeu. He only played 14 games for Real Madrid. Woody was loaned to Middlesbrough in August 2006 and the move became permanent for a fee of $14 million earlier this year.
