Ahmad Hassan said on Monday he wasn't assigned to take penalty-kicks when he volunteered to score Anderlecht's only goal from the spot against Germinal Beerschot. Hassan thundered a penalty-kick home on Saturday to score his first goal with Anderlecht and give the Belgium side their second successive victory in the league. "I wasn't appointed to take the penalties before the game," Hassan said. "In Besiktas, I used to take them all." Last season, veteran Swedish striker Paer Zetterberg would execute penalties for Anderlecht. But after his retirement and the arrival of Hassan this summer, the Egypt co-captain is tipped to take over the responsibility. Hassan scored two penalty-kicks for Egypt in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year. He slammed a last-minute penalty against the woodwork during the goalless draw in the final match with Ivory Coast but he made up instantly by scoring the first attempt in the shootout. "I miss penalties every now and then as I did with Egypt in the final," the 30-year-old midfielder said. "But to me, it isn't a matter of life and death." Hassan joined Anderlecht from Turkish side Besiktas after spending seven seasons playing in the Turkish SuperLig.
