AC Milan will be allowed to participate in the Champions League, the UEFA confirmed on Wednesday. The European governing body said they decided to include Milan for formal reasons because of an insufficient legal basis. "Milan takes advantage of the fact that UEFA lacks legal grounds to refuse the club's admission. In this respect, Milan is herewith informed that the necessary adaptations will be made to the regulations concerned," UEFA said in a statement on their official website. UEFA's emergency panel decided the six-time European champions could play in Europe's premier club competition, despite being found guilty during the Italian match-fixing scandal. The side was able to reduce their original punishment, a deduction of 15 points, to only eight points, in an appeal. The cut was sufficient to allow them a place in the tournament. However, UEFA has warned the Italian giants of any wrongdoing during the competition. "UEFA and the club's opponents will observe with the utmost attention the future attitude of Milan around UEFA club competition fixtures. "UEFA will not hesitate to intervene severely, should Milan be involved in any activities aiming to arrange improperly the outcome of a match," the statement added. AC Milan will face either former champions Red Star Belgrade or Cork City in the third qualifying round next week.
