Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan said he believes his team mates can cover his absence against the USA on Thursday and grab a ticket to the first knock-out stage. The Modena player became the first Ghanaian to score in the World Cup finals when he found the net during his side's stunning 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic. But a second booking marred Gyan's historic day and he was handed an automatic suspension against the Americans, a game that can be Ghana's way to the second round. "I'm one of the key players in the team and I know they needed me against USA, but it is part of the game that these things happen," 20-year-old Gyan told FIFAworldcup.com in an interview published Tuesday. "We have lots of capable players on the bench and if I am out it doesn't mean that we are out. "If we win, we qualify for the next stage and I don't know what's in the mind of the coach and maybe he will give me another chance. I'm going to do my best anyway." The African debutants slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Italy in their Group E opener before their victory over the Czechs brought them back to the race. Although the USA have only one point and are placed in the basement of the group, an outstanding nine-man performance against Italy earned them a 1-1 draw and gave them a glimpse of hope to qualify to the round of 16. "Football is not like the olden days where you can say who is definitely going to win because now it has changed. Everybody comes here to win," Gyan said. "We have to concentrate and make sure we don't make mistakes. If everything works out for us, maybe we can have the same result (against the USA) as against the Czech Republic."
