Real Madrid president Fernando Martin has put a list of seven candidates to take the helm at the Santiago Bernabeu next season, Spanish media reported on Monday. "It is going to come from one of seven coaches. We are clear about what type of coach we want," Martin told Spanish television station Antena 3. "We want one of the coaches that you all know we want. (Jose) Mourinho, (Fabio) Capello, (Rafa) Benitez, (Arsene) Wenger, (Carlo) Ancelotti, (Marcelo) Lippi and (Sven-Goran) Eriksson," he added. Since the sacking of former Brazilian coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, reports have linked several high-profile managers with the Bernabeu job.
Eriksson is a frontrunner Martin insisted that caretaker coach Juan Lopez Caro will step down from his post at the end of the season as he is looking for a replacement. "No other thing can be said because I believe I have to be prudent. What I can say is that we have to try to build a team possible of the best for next year and a basic element of a better team is the coach," he said. The Spanish giants have endured three trophy-less seasons. This season they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 at the hands of Arsenal and are currently trailing Primera Liga leaders Barcelona by 11 points.
