Real Madrid have sacked coach Fabio Capello on Thursday, 11 days after the Italian tactician guided the Spanish giants to their first Primera Liga title in four years. The club's board has taken the decision unanimously after reviewing the report of Real's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic, Los Merengues announced on their official website. Mijatovic, who once played under the guidance of Capello, gave unclear explanations for the sacking of the former Juventus boss. "We don't think Fabio Capello is the right person to lead Real Madrid into the future given what we want this club to achieve," he told a press conference. This is the second time for Capello to walk out of Real after just a one-year spell at the helm, having left the club in 1997 after also securing the league title. "I haven't managed to talk it over with him personally because he is on holiday at the moment, but I did manage to speak to his son who is also his lawyer," Mijatovic said. Getafe manager Bernd Schuster is most likely to succeed Capello at Santiago Bernabeu. "Now we have time to think over who will be the next coach of the club," he added. Capello's relationship with Real president Ramon Calderon was nowhere nears warmness as the duo had several public spats throughout the season. However, Capello managed to restore the players' high spirit, which proved to be a crucial factor in determining the league's fate.
