World number one Roger Federer recovered from a set behind to overcome Olivier Rochus of Belgium in the third round of the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells on Tuesday. The two-time defending champion committed a painful total of 59 unforced errors before he finally stepped up his game and defeated the 30th-seeded Belgian 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. The 24-year-old star next faces French teenager, Richard Gasquet, who eased past 19th-seeded Dominik Hrbaty in straight sets. The seven-time Grand Slam champion will be looking to avenge his shocking defeat to 16th-seeded Gasquet, who was one of only four players to defeat Federer last season as he ousted the Swiss out of the Monte Carlo Masters Series. Meanwhile, two of the tournament's top ten seeds suffered major upsets as seventh-seeded Gaston Gaudio fell to US Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis and ninth-seeded Lleyton Hewitt stumbled against reigning Paris Masters champion, Tomas Berdych. Former junior number one, Baghdatis and 23rd-seeded Berdych are set to clash in the fourth round on Wednesday. Croatian seeds, Mario Ancic and Ivan Ljubicic also set up their fourth round meeting after notching victories over French opponents, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Gael Monfils, respectively. In the last match of the day, second-seeded Rafael Nadal claimed a comfortable straight sets win over American wildcard, Mardy Fish and will next take on 20th-seeded Frenchman, Sebastien Grosjean.
