Hossam Hassan guided Jordan to the World Cup final qualifying intercontinental playoffs after overcoming Uzbekistan on penalties. Following a disappointing 1-1 first-leg draw in Jordan, both teams played out another stalemate in Tashkent after Saeed Al Murjan had cancelled out the hosts' Anzur Ismailov's early goal to head to penalties. After a dramatic evening that saw the game halted for 18 minutes due to a floodlight failure, Hassan's men managed to edge out a 9-8 penalty shoot-out win to go through. Jordan meet South America's (CONMEBOL) fifth-placed team in a decisive two-legged tie with the first match taking place on 13-14 November. Up until now Uruguay are fifth of their group with three games remaining. Egypt's all-time leading scorer Hassan took Jordan's helm back in June, succeeding Iraqi coach Adnan Hamad who guided Al-Nashama to the fifth qualifying playoffs against Uzbekistan.
