Veteran goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Akabawi has joined Zamalek on a free transfer from Arab Contractors, the Whites said on their website. Al-Akabawi, 34, signed a three-year contract with Zamalek after ending a long spell of more than 11 years at Contractors. The veteran goalie joins Egypt keeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed and Mahmoud ‘Gennesh', who is likely to leave the club in the near future. Al-Akabawi is expected to provide backup for long-serving captain Abdul-Wahed as Masri loanee Ahmed Al-Shennawi is set to return to his parent club. The new recruit should be added to Zamalek's Champions League roster and could be available for next week's clash against Ahli in the group-stage opener.
