Following a few months on loan from Zamalek at Al-Wasl, the midfield star has been unattached after being released by the Emirate club in January. He has been ineligible to play for his parent club, who initially listed him for loan following an infamous spat with former coach Hassan Shehata back in May 2012. Despite doubts surrounding the Egypt international's future, Zamalek chief Abbas confirmed that Shika will return to his old club. “Shikabala is not leaving Zamalek. Weather on loan or by permanent sale," Abbas told reporters. “He will return to the squad as soon as the transfer window opens. He is a great player and we are willing to keep him." Despite being under contract with Zamalek, Shikabala has not been allowed to train with his boyhood club upon the orders of manager Jorvan Vieira. The 27-year-old, who has been a virtuoso for Zamalek in recent years, has hardly been missed this season as the Whites comfortably lead their league group while managing to book their place in the Champions League last eight.
