The Egyptian Premier League new season will kick off on Saturday as planned, the FA confirmed despite the ongoing political crisis. After a year of disruption following the Port-Said disaster, domestic football is due to resume this weekend with two games involving Ahli and Zamalek. However, February 2 has been doubted as a return date for the competition by fans, pundits and footballers amid a fresh stream of violence in several Egyptian governorates. “The ministry has not informed us of any intention to postpone the league kickoff," Egyptian FA chief executive Tharwat Soweilam told FilGoal.com. “Security forces are also expected to be in charge of the process of securing matches. “Up until now, we assure all people that the league competition should start on time despite the events near the presidential palace." Clashes are ongoing between protesters and police outside the palace of Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi in Cairo. The riots comes a few days after some 60 people in different parts of the country had been killed in the wake of the verdict of the Port-Said trial.
