PRIME Minister Ahmed Nazif; Japanese Ambassador Kaoru Ishikawa; the President of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Sadako Ogata; and other officials from the two countries inaugurate today the Egypt- Japan University of Science and Technology (E-Just). The opening ceremony of the new national technical university, established with Japanese co-operation, will be held in Smart Village near Cairo. The E-JUST, located in New Borg El-Arab near the coastal city of Alexandria, will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in business, culture and engineering with JICA concentrating on graduate engineering, according to organisers. The project, organised by JICA, brought together various government ministries, academic and industrial organisations and other 12 Japanese universities. The university is expected to become a centre of excellence in technology, not only for Egypt but for the wider Middle East and Africa, they added. The Japanese Ambassador and the Governor of Alexandria yesterday laid the foundation stone of the university, whose construction will be completed within five years.
