President Hosni Mubarak endorsed Tuesday a new law to organise nuclear activities and radioactivity in Egypt, which was approved by the Parliament last week, Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis said. "Mubarak endorsed law No. 7/2010, which organises the radioactivity and nukes in Egypt," Younis was quoted by the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) as saying. He added that the law represented the legal framework of building nuclear facilities, its security and ensuring the safety of the people working in nuclear fields as well as the disposal of radioactive waste. Egypt is planning to set up five peaceful nuclear plants to meet the increasing demands of energy. Meanwhile, Mubarak, who spends a two-week convalescence in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, dispatched two message to Ethiopia's prime minister and Djibouti's president. Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit, who is attending Egyptian-Ethiopian Co-operation Commission meetings in Addis Ababa, will deliver them. US Vice President Joe Biden called Mubarak late Monday to wish him a speedy recovery after his gallbladder removal surgery in Germany, the White House said. "The vice president called Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak today (Monday) to extend his wishes for a quick recovery and to congratulate him on the birth of his first granddaughter, Farida Mubarak," the White House said in a statement. Biden had been scheduled to visit Egypt for talks with Mubarak during a trip to the region earlier this month, but the visit was cancelled after the Egyptian leader was hospitalised.
