Zamalek: Referees favour Ahly
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 26 - 03 - 2010

Zamalek football director Ibrahim Hassan has called on fellow Premier League teams to ask for foreign referees because 'the Egyptian officials favor Al-Ahly'.
The White Knights, who beat Military Production on Wednesday to keep alive their slim hopes of launching a late assault on the title, were waiting for Ahli to stumble to further close the gap on them
However, league leaders Al-Ahly claimed a controversial 2-1 comeback victory over Enppi on Thursday to remain six points clear of their arch-rivals with a game in hand.
Enppi were infuriated after having two goals disallowed for alleged offside either side of the interval.
"All the league teams should ask for foreign referees because what happens is unacceptable," Hassan told Al-Hayat TV after the game Thursday night.
"The way Ahly is treated by the referees shows that they are trying to end any potential competition for the title.
"If the refereeing committee thinks that Ahly should win the title, they should announce it and we should not bother ourselves anymore."
Al-Ahly were one of several teams who hit out at Egyptian referees on several occasions this season.
Promoted Mansoura, who look destined to go down after one season in the top flight, threatened to withdraw from the league after losing 1-0 to Police Union earlier this month.
The Egyptian FA is yet to impose any sanctions on the clubs' officials, managers and players who heavily criticized the referees.
"Favouritism affected many games this season, this is very clear," Hassan added.
"I did not want to make any comments about that issue but I couldn't remain silent after what happened in Ahly's game against Enppi."
