AUCKLAND - All Blacks winger Zac Guildford scored two tries as the Canterbury Crusaders pulled clear of a stubborn Sharks side in the closing stages for a 35-6 win in their Super 14 match at Lancaster Park in Christchurch on Friday. Guildford scored the only try in the first half, then converted an intercept in the 68th minute as the Sharks to put an end the South African side's resistance. The winger also set up Adam Whitelock for a try, while replacement Quentin MacDonald added a bonus point touchdown in the final minute. All Blacks flyhalf Daniel Carter added three conversions and three penalties for the Crusaders, who dominated territory and produced an aggressive swarming defence on the Sharks ball carriers and around the fringes of the breakdown. "Our defence really set the tone for us. There were some great hits coming from the boys," Crusaders captain Kieran Read said in a televised interview. "We talked about really stepping up in that area and we shored up inside close to the ruck and it paid off for us." Guildford scored his first try after some superb mid-field defence by the Crusaders forwards turned the ball over and after excellent interplay, the winger chopped back inside and finished off near the posts. Carter converted and then slotted a 36th-minute penalty, while Sharks scrumhalf Rory Kockott produced two long-range penalties for the visitors to send the teams into the break with the Crusaders holding a 10-6 lead.
