Sami to swing: Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced a 30-year-old agricultural engineer called Sami Soleiman to death, having found him guilty of the premeditated murder of his 27-year-old wife, Awatef Karam, and their three-year-old daughter, Jeanie. Sami killed his family in their flat in el- Ameria near Zeitoun, when his wife, a pretty soul, discovered that he was involved with another woman who lived nearby. Fearing scandal, he decided to kill Awatef. After murdering his wife and daughter, Sami trashed their flat and hide Awatef's gold jewellery to make it look like they'd been killed by someone whose motive was theft. Sami's sentence awaits ratification by the Mufti. Heroin in New Cairo: The head of security at New Cairo Criminal Court in Helwan Governorate spotted a young man sitting in a dark corner of the garage. He walked over to him and discovered that he was in the process of shooting up some heroin. He arrested the junkie, who gave his name as Yasser Ahmed, and a search of his person yielded 500g of the drug, which he said he was intending to sell. In a separate incident at the same court, a police officer arrested two young ladies, who were behaving suspiciously. Siham Hassan (21), with a criminal record for 'inciting immorality' and theft, and her friend, a 19-year-old housewife called Safaa Zikra, were also found to be in possession of heroin. Kidnap: Police have foiled an attempt by four men to kidnap the son of a wealthy architect from outside their home in Nasr City. The man who planned the kidnapping, a painter and decorator, asked three of his friends to help him kidnap the lad, using a rented car. The idea was to hold him to ransom for LE100,000. Three of them were on their way to commit the crime, when a police patrol spotted them quite by chance driving in a suspicious manner down Moustafa el- Nahas Street. Officers stopped the vehicle and the problems really started for the gang when the driver didn't have a licence or the documents for the car with an el- Qaliubia registration. The men in the car were named as Ashraf Saber (29), Maged Mahgoub (21) and Adel Kamal (26), all living in the Nahda Buildings in Medinat el-Salam and thugs who've done time for weaponsrelated offences. The vehicle had been hired by a fourth man, the painter, named as Essam Abdel-Aziz (36), also from Medinat el-Salam. Detectives didn't believe the first three when they said they were just out for a jaunt. Back at the station, they changed their story. They said Essam had taken them out for a dinner costing LE300, during which he outlined his plan and they then agreed to kidnap Omar Ahmed Ismail (12), from outside his home in the Shorouq Buildings in Nasr City. Essam had got to know Omar's father when they were working together in Saudi Arabia. He knew the architect was rich and would be able to pay the ransom. He offered his three friends LE20,000 of the proceeds for their help. Shortly after Ashraf, Maged and Adel were caught, Essam, who was short of money, was arrested too.
