Egypt's coach Hassan Shehata has said that he will not be coaching Nigeria in the upcoming World Cup. The three-time African Cup winner was sought, among other big names, by Nigeria to take charge of the team in South Africa, after Shaibu Amodu was sacked as the Nigeria coach. Although it was reported widely that Shehata was keen on the job, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) refused the Nigerian offer to sign Egypt's most successful coach on a four-month loan deal, the local media reported yesterday. "My contract with Egypt's national team continues until the end of 2012," Shehata said in United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he was honoured by Al-Ain club. "I received many offers, but the Egyptian Football Association closed the door on them and announced that I will continue till the end of my contract," Shehata added. Mohamed Bin Thaaloub, an Al-Ain club member in the United Arab Emirates, praised the Egyptian team and his coach Shehata. "We support all Arab teams, who clinch sports championships at all levels - regionally or internationally," Thaaloub said. Thaaloub declared that the Egyptian team had honoured the region in world soccer. "W e are so proud of them," he added. Nigeria's shortlist also includes Russian coach Guus Hiddink, former Ghana manager Ratomir Dujkovic and Qatar boss Bruno Metsu. They announced on Tuesday that veteran Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni, currently at the helm of Republic of Ireland, has been added to their targets. Shehata's next challenge will be taking on England in Wembley in a friendly in March.
